Prototype 22

We made already the final chair but we were not sure about the covering of the seat. It needs to be waterproof and hygenic so we don't have that much choices. For this prototype we use just a covering of foam from a  yoga plate. We can variate in layers.

Expected positive: This feels quite soft
Unexpected positive:
Expected negative: Edges aren't covered yet, this is a bit anti-slip so not that easy during the transfer
Unexpected negative: You feel the pattern of the yoga plate, so it needs to be more smooth

Score: Prototype scores already quit good,on softness but can be better.

Materials

After all the visits and consults it's time to discuss about the materials and the manufacturing process wich will be used in the final product.

It is necessary to have clear the parts which will configurate the chair and how this will be joined to occupy as less space as possible. Also all the materials has to be waterproof because it will be used also in the shower.

Materials

Legs: For this we could use the same ones that we used in the prototypes (the adjustable) but we should add some piece in the top to make the connection easier and more safe. This piece could be of wood, which is easier to manipulate than metal and it wouldn't get wet because is inside the other tube.

Base: -Some type of plastic, like thermoplastic, wich are used for garden and exterior furniture. This are resistant and hygienic (PP, PE,...).
-A layer of wood, if this would be very good coated with a waterproof tissue.

Shape: For her comfort, the chair will include an ergonomic shape. To avoid problems with the water, the best option and the slightestwill be fabricate it with plastic or some type of fiber (carbon), making a mold.
In the other hand, it is also possible to make the shape with foam and recover it very well.

Cover: A fabric that can resist and avoid the water so it can protect the internal materials. For example: Gore-Tex, Nylon or Vinyl, very used now, especially in the sports area.
Also apply a stain-resistant treatment, which also makes the waterproof material.

For the union of the cover with the rest of the chair it is possible to use a special glue, resistant to the water, commonly used in the swimming pools, or a plástic zipper.

Prototype 21

Prototype 21:

Based on previous tests: the separate legs would be the best option with the added strip for the grip and the soft seating. It would be better if the legs are a bit under an angle (Seating/grip used from prototype 13-14))

Expected positive: Grip is good, better on both sides.
Unexpected positive: Assemblage without any problems, transfer is safe
Expected negative: This prototype is a bit to high but 3-4 cm lower would be oké
Unexpected negative: Hole need to be a bit bigger, now she can still feel her sitting bumps, stability is oké but can better.

Score: Prototype good but still need a few adaptions (height, more compact, durable and long lasting)
In fact it need to be an combination with the adaptable legs from prototype 20. And the seating need to change a bit (hole a bit bigger and seat lower, grips on 2 sides)

Prototype 20

Prototype 20: separate legs in straight frame

Based on the good shape of the seating (prototype 10) the extendable legs can fit in to the seating.
In one leg we added a system to fix the leg in the seating

Fixation mechanism:

Expected positive: Good fixation
Unexpected positive:
Expected negative:
Unexpected negative
